Winner of Nikon Thursday Award 2009
Abbie Trayler-Smith (UK) is the winner of Nikon Thursday Award 2009!
For her story “Still Human, Still Here” the jury (Pep Bonet, E; Meta Krese, Slo; Rok Gašparič, Slo; Chris de Bode, NL – Jury president) felt was the best and have awarded her the prize. Chris de Bode stated for the jury: “Abbie has shown a very personal story, where she went out and met people on her own doorstep and brought their stories to the public. She exposed herself to her own environment and succeeded to make contact by telling these stories on a very personal, touching way, which persuaded the jury. She has built the bridge between the people in the story and the audience, and made the audience recognize the hardships of her subjects.”
The jury has also expressed an honorary mention to the work of Jean Christoph Couet (USA), Camouflage – Suicide in Slovenia, and the work of Ian Teh (UK), Dark Clouds – The hidden side of China’s miracle economy.

Abbie Trayler-Smith (Velika Britanija) je prejemnica Nikonove Četrtkove nagrade 2009!
Za fotografsko zgodbo “Še vedno človek, še vedno tu” je žirija (Pep Bonet, E; Meta Krese, Slo; Rok Gašparič, Slo; Chris de Bode, NL – predsednik žirije) menila, da je najboljša in ji podelila letošnjo nagrado. Za žirijo je predsednik Chris de Bode izjavil: “Abbie je prikazala zelo osebno zgodbo, kjer je spoznala ljudi na lastnem pragu ter predestavila njihove zgodbe. Skozi to delo se je izpostavila lastnemu okolju in uspela vzpostaviti stik ter podati zgodbo na zelo oseben, ganljiv način, ki je prepričal žirijo. Postavila je most med ljudmi v zgodbi in občinstvom, ki so spoznali njihovo trpljenje.”
Posebno pohvalo je žirija izrekla projektu Jeana Christopha Coueta (ZDA), Prikrivanje – Samomori v Sloveniji ter projektu Iana Teha (VB), Temni oblaki – skrita stran kitajske čudežne ekonomije.

Here is a picture from Tuesday of Minister of Culture Majda Širca at exhibition Hometown of Otto Snoek in Jakčev dom. This and all other exhibitions you got to see! They are mind blowing! And today is the main day in festival program because at 21.00 there will be a projection of Thursday Nikon Award! Please check out the nominees from 15 countries.

This picture I’ve done two weeks ago. Brina loves her new haircut.

New STRIPTIZ portrait is a portrait of my friend Chris de Bode, an art director of Fotopub festival a festival of documentary photography in Novo mesto, Slovenia. It starts next week and Pep Bonet is main mentor. There will be many exhibitions, lectures, workshops, tribune, debates, slideshow projections, etc. Please check their site on www.fotopub.com.

Anyhow when I was thinking how should I made the portrait I wanted to make an intensive picture of training photography. With my wife Alenka we were discussing how to do the picture and on the end the idea came into being. Brane from Konjeniški center Češča generously helped us. The peak was the suit that Chris brought along. I love it! It’s so great! Also Boštjan Pucelj shaved his beard shaven in a creative way, but that’s too conceptual for me. We had really good time! Thx to pulling photographers Boštjan Pucelj (left) and Tomaž Grdin (right), Chris de Bode, Katarina Žunič, Alenka Peterlin and Branko.

Sorry for not blogging for a while, but I’ve been so much into this 5am project and I devoted every single second of my free time to work on it. So here it is the youtube version of it. Music was written and performed by Daniel Wehr a colleague from Fabrica in year 2000. Graphic design by Jure Kocuvan. Let me know how do you like it. I tried many options and effects, but on the end I decided to keep it simple, without special effects. Obviously influeced by Nan Goldin‘s slideshow that I saw last week in Arles photo festival. Let me know what do you think!
