New creative portrait Jožica Curk and Mateja Panter
Jožica Curk and Mateja Panter, architects and industrial designers, authors of a project Hi Konjiček / Giddy-up Rocking Horse. The inspiration for their rocking horse is a retro design from year 1956 and the principle re:use, re:design, re:think. I hope their concept is noted also in my portrait. I’ve made a portrait at Trnovo riding club in Ljubljana and in post-process I used split toning, adding grain, vignetting, displacing, warping and last but not least I combined two images in photoshop to get this cracks on the picture. I used a texture of a cracked stone.
If you want a video podcast on this kind of postprocess, I can do it, no problem, just leave a comment. I know that JC hates this explanations and since he makes most of the comments…
But seriously I learned a lot from Lesa Snider @CreativeLive. I’ve started working with Photoshop 3.0 in year 1995 and I feel comfortable with it, but exactly that’s why I’m keep on buying courses and books because there is so much more to learn and it’s fun to have more ways to express yourself.

5am project at #occupywallstreet / Ljubljana
This morning I got up before 4am and drove to Ljubljana to photograph protestors infront of Ljubljana stock exchange as a part #occupywallstreet movement. For eleven years I’m working on a 5am project where I take pictures around 5am in different places of Europe and hopefully once it’ll be a book. Actually in this years I’ve made almost a dozen versions of book dummies, but new images are keep on appearing and I can’t finish it. Here is a multi-vision version from year 2009. And HERE is a post with 5am images from Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic.
Kewdr underground club
Yesterday I visited the Kewdr club where Štef, the president of Punk Kura is the man. That night was scheduled an event Club’s Marathon of Radio Student where they pick six best young bands in Slovenia and then they tour in different clubs. It happened that this was the best Hardcore / Punk / Rock gig ever! Bends THE HOAX PROGRAM and Joko Ono were playing on full and public went bizerk and I couldn’t stop taking pictures! I think the picture above is the best concert image I’ve ever done! It reminds me on a famous picture of Garry Winogrand / Austin, Texas, 1974 (LINK), where he caught the chaos on the field and every player is in the frame.
For photographers: If you like the color cast of the images, I’ve made a preset for it and you can peek in my receipt and download it HERE. I guess you will use it more often then I will since I rarely photograph concerts and even if I do I mix a new preset based on the general light and mood. Leave a feedback, though.

Ljubljana in Le Monde / Text by Brina Svit, photo by Borut Peterlin

Last week I was assigned by Le Monde or it’s Saturday’s supplement M le magazine du Monde, to illustrate a text on Ljubljana by Brina Svit. It is my first publication in Le Monde and I’m super excited about it. Not only because of Le Monde, but also because I’m illustrating text of Brina Svit, the famous Slovenian writer.
One more thing… I’m investing quite a lot of resources and time in my on-line presence and yes Jean-Christophe, I am extraverted, but that’s not the point… What do I want to say is, that I’ve studied photography abroad (CZ, I, UK) and although I live in Dolenjske Toplice, Slovenia, I still consider myself a part of European photography scene, even though I’m far from it’s frontiers and even further away from it’s centers. So when I get assigned from abroad I know a client stumble upon my work because of my portfolio site, my flickr account, my behance network, my facebook activity, my blog…
But to be stumbled upon is one thing, to get assigned is another. I bought my site at aphotofolio and now I do have more success with assignments as well. On the end of the day it’s a sign that it might be worth to spend some time for on-line promotion. Not to mention that my extraverted side is indulged (indulged – I like that word) and happy as a radio.
Last but not least, few days ago I received a magazine Scania World, for which I was assigned via Appelberg agency.
Rock and Roll!!!
Photo of the week (Vizjak, Tanko, Janša and Hrovat)
Yesterday I covered a political event. Since I’m not photoeditor at Mladina weekly anymore, I’m assigned to do more interviews then mainstream political events. This was not an important political event, it was just a local event of a public tribune of SDS party. President Janša and SDS party are right wing political orientated, very much against everything that might rhyme with past times in Yugoslavia, but their acts, rhetoric (and iconography) is very similar to communism, a party where their president Janez Janša begun his political career. In this picture they look like a leaders of Soviet Union isn’t. Photography sometimes does say more then words.
A creative portrait of a painter Darko Slavec
Darko Slavec is a painter whose exhibition is closing this Sunday in Koroška galerija likovnih umetnosti. His work is dealing with micro and macro cosmos and human existence in between. In his paintings few symbols are present in this or another way. Foremost bread, stars, universe, black hole,… Link to his pictures.
When I was talking to him I got this idea that I would like to make a picture that would reflect his work more then a usual portrait. I bought this photoshop class at Creativelive and armed with new knowledge of wrapping and displacing images, I said to myself: And Now for Something Completely Different. Second picture I’ve done more in conventional manner. In Mladina weekly the second image will be published. Which one do you prefer?
