Blog – ergo sum in Web 2.0!

with 4 comments

FAQ question that is keep on coming up is why am I blogging and because my answer is allways accepted with suspicious look, let settle the score straight! As I said before I firmly believe in collective consciousnes and my blog is one way of contributing in it.

I was thinking for quite some time to start my own blog, but everything exploded in apocaliptic proportions when I read an article Life on Internet (Delo, Sobotna priloga, 5. avgust 2006) translated from Der Spiegel. Basically it was talking about Web 2.0 phenomena and milestones of internet like Wikipedia, Facebook, Youtube, MySpace,…

I was completly astonished and my imagination start to brew crazy thoughts, BOLD ideas and projects which might be feasible. And you know how I am… Words “Is it feasible?” are fetish for me.

Book is the best media for my photography and although I’m producing good dummy books, Slovenia (as much as I adore it) it’s so small, that publishing a personal photo-essay book would mean commercial suicide and publishing abroad it demends time and re$ources that I do not have. Anyhow I’m thinking…

What if…

… there would be a site, where all the people like me, writers, poets, comic writers, photographers would publish their book in PDF format and visitors could look at it for free. Viewers would wrote a review of a book and like at Wikipedia a discussion would be established and with evolutional logic best books would receive a lot of attention and publishers would grab it with both hands.

I called few friends who know more about internet then I do and asked them if they heard about similar concept of a website and they haven’t. But they think it’s really good idea and it’s feasible.

Fantastic! Great! More, more, I’m jumping like a small child!

What will be the name of the site? Keywords, keywords,… book, free, of publishers,… A million dollar question…What would be the name of a site that would gain a popularity of Facebook… On a walk with my wife suddenly everything was clear to me.

It was almost like a revelation. I felt like winning a million dollars at lotery, asking my wife does lybra really mean a book in latin or it’s just my wild imagination. Right next moment I text messaged my friends the happy news. Very next day I bought a domain.

So, my main aim blogging is to get acquaintanted with this new mentality, learn new language and establish a website that would promote books with a speed of light.

Altough I now the concept of Lybrated.com has a huge potencial comperable to MySpace or Facebook I’m not affraid that this concept would be stolen and even if it would, it would save me a lot of work and I would need just to login and upload my books and off I go.

I’m new in this neighbourhood and I do need every advice I could get. If you know for some internet companies that are open for new ideas, plese send me a contact. If you’re interested in colaborating in this project, please leave a comment and we’ll join our forces. I guess that’s all about Web 2.0, isn’t?

PS: I’m completly amazed what attention this blog is getting and since this is an experiment here are statistics for last three weeks. I think it’s time to move the blog to my website, learn wordpress properly and make it better. Cheers everybody!

  1. If I understood correctly, it would kind of be like YouTube but for books? That would be nice to see.

The closest thing I can think of right now is the Gutenberg Project, which focuses mostly on older classic books that are no longer copyright-protected.

  2. yes Michael! Author would upload a book in PDF format, write a synopsis and leave it on the site for people to download it, comment it and so on. For a photographer as myself I was playing with statistics:

Let say, that in a year time there would be 20.000 people that would dowload my book. From this number of people would certaily be 5 of them who would want to buy original print at the prize of 1000 USD and 2 currators who would want to host my show and 1 book publisher that would want to publish a book! AT LEAST! I think on the end of the day it would certainly make sense!
