Friday events…

d178_5648_borut_peterlin.jpg On Friday together with college from Neue Zurucher Zeitung we’ve visited Strojan’s house. Chicken, Gooses and cat are very hungry. When we stepped outfrom the car, chicken run toward us, expecting some food. We didn’t had it, but in the evening I’ve returned with some bread.

d178_5567_borut_peterlin.jpg In Sostro, suburb of Ljubljana, where possible location for Strojan family is, again great protest start to happen. Man on the picture is Tom Boh, who was starting toset a barricade and he got fined for doing so and held in prison for 12 hours. He’s braging with his fine. Cross in the back is a pole of a hay-barn, that looks like a cross.

d178_5485_borut_peterlin.jpg On the spot I was surrprised by reaction of the man who’s picture was in the news and he’s standing in the backgound. He was saying pretty hard stuff conserning Romas, like if they’ll move to this area they will ruin this community and that community didn’t deserve that. The thing that really surrprised me is that he was really indignant on racial issues and he was clearly descending from Serbo / Croatian background….

d179_5766_borut_peterlin.jpg Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković tryed to convincepeople to accept Roma’s temporarily to stay in their local community, but no luck. Nobody from the goverment side didn’t join to support him. Not even small officials. After his speach he went to his car, but on his way he took time (25 min) to discuss with everybody from the crowd to spoke with him / her.

In Sostro people gathered to protest.

d179_5868_borut_peterlin.jpg I find this picture a simbol of this situation of barricades and protests conserning Strojan Roma family. Monkey buisness…

  1. Re the surprise of the comment on racial issues from Serbo/Croatian man – there is a sizable population of Roma in Croatia and Serbia especially. Their attitude towards Roma is not necessarily any better than Slovenian and many of the same stereotypes about Roma prevail.

Great pictures BTW. I’m sure nobody will agree with me, but these are best of yours i have seen so far from the Ambrus related story. Love the composition on the first one, night shots are just great and pic of the kids with bread is fantastic. I think you should stick to color.

  2. Ciao Ivan! You were reading my thoughts! I didn’t wrote a post how do I decide if I’m using color or BW To simplify an answer. During the night I can do miracles with color photography, but during the day I prefer all the shades of the light and dark, which basically mean BW photography. On Sathurday I decided to stick with color photography.

I’m amazed that you read that just from the pictures. You’ve hit the nail on the head also with your comment

    Have we met?

  3. It’s nice to hear i’m not off the mark. 🙂 I never know how how far should i go in expressing my opinion.

While we were in the same room several times, i think we met and talked only once, briefly, during previous year’s Fotopub while you were showing me the way to some exhibition opening.
