Portrait of Jani Kovačič

_mg_7964_borut_peterlin.jpgJani Kovačič is a renown Slovenian musician and for next issue of Mladina, my favorite Mladina’s journalist Jure Aleksič wrote his profile. Great text revealing a lot background stories of Jani as a Rock star of 90’s. I mentioned to him I laughed my guts out when he came on the stage and said to the audience: Dear audience I’m going to introduce you a content of my next cassette.” Then he was for next 10 minutes pulling out magnetic tape from the cassette. He told me another of his dadaistic part from his concert. After few performances like that he was really notorious artist throughout Yugoslavia and everybody were expecting shocking performance, so on one of his concert he started the concert with a claim that he’s going to cut himself! So he repeated that few more times during the concert that lasted for an hour. Everybody were mesmerized and waiting when he’ll cut himself and when he finished with his music, he took scissors raised them high and then he cut his nails. HERE is link to his words of his songs.

Photographic wise I wanted to build a picture of nostalgia, memories and his quote that he love just to sit and observes stories that are happening on the street.

  1. Uhhh, huda fora! Škoda samo, da nisi umaknil svoje pijače s slamico in da si mu porezal prste na roki…

  2. Well, I did move the glass with the straw away, but although I took another 50 pictures, I didn’t caught similar moment Jani’s reflection in the glass.

It’s exciting that although I’m staging the picture, by preconceived ideas, small moments are happening and this moments are actually an icing on the cake. That small moments are like spices in the dish.

    Decisive moment at work!

  6. Do not know his work after 80’s but in that time I liked him a lot. I’m glad to see he is still good.
