New Striptiz portrait – Vasja Nagy

For Striptiz rubric I did a portrait of curator and art critic Vasja Nagy. He used to work for Obalne galerija Piran, but now he is a freelance art critic and curator. A really bold move!

Well for this project I was thinking to make something with the sea and a gallery. Either to bring a seaside scene into the gallery or to bring a gallery out to the seaside. In my mind I browsed through many versions of this situation, but nothing was really striking. When I was working on a new coverpage of Mladina weekly I pulled out from my storage room a background that was deep blue – sort of an abstract sea.

I was thinking to make a picture with a normal sea, it’s abstract picture and an art critic. I was trying all sorts of scenarios trying to make it work, but it was really difficult. The hardest was to make it clear and obvious the sea and it’s abstract version. And then I had another problem of a person that is interacting with a canvas, but I not shot in the back.

Anyhow I’ve select out this three pictures and I’ll see what you have to say about it. In the worst case I’ll use the portrait without the canvas. It’s out of the Striptiz concept, but it’s OK nevertheless.

  3. For me, third one is the best in case of lightning – it fit into your concept of ambyence. Thing I dislike in picture no.3 are shadows. They always made me look at them. I don’t know what to say for no.1 and no.2 so I will shut up. Maybe (sorry if I’m doing this too freely) a boat (small one) roaming thrue canvases (made up out of regular paper, or with abstract sea printed on it) would be better (or something like that). Have you considered to repeat the session?

  5. More & more I look the first picture, more I like it. Also Vasja is the same opinion. I know it’s not amusing as many others from the series, but I like it just because of that.
