Gregor Luštek and Rosana Hribar 20080414_4118

Here is a new portrait for Mladina’s Stripiz rubric. Rosana Hribar and Gregor Luštek are renown dancers that recently won an important international contest in Hanover. I now Gregor from secondary school but he moved to Ljubljana and I see him only on national celebrations where he performs. The image is shot on a parking lot beside Bežigrad stadium and it’s one of rare free parking lots in Ljubljana. And since it’s free it’s also not maintained and there are so many puddles it looks very surreal, so I wanted for a long time to make a portrait there. When I made first test shot I was surprised myself on blueness of the sky. It’s not artificially saturated, it’s just evening sky, that I underexposed it. Portrait of dancers was perfect occasion and I find a perfect metaphor in contrast between dirt, wet, earth, cold,… and air, sky, clean,…

It’s a metaphor of artist’s pursuit for beauty in everyday.

PS: Klemen Ilovar was assisting me. thx! Please choose one image! I need to submit it today, so quick! thx!

  1. Nice reflections, these two are really decent shots…

  3. Take the top shot, I don’t like the relection of the car in the second one and it just seem like a student image of a mirror. The combination of elements which you speak of in your description is lost to me in the second shot but passes in the first.

Even Shadowish Bright described the shots as decent and the definition of decent is :

conforming to standards of propriety, good taste, or morality.

What does that mean you ask? Not much.

What do I know anyway…I only shoot on film and black and white.

    Go Slovenia!

  4. No.1 works for me fine. It is more than decent for me, but… I only play cow bells at times 🙂
Reflection is interesting but much more I like those legs and hands above reflection. The pose is too surreal to be decent. Also, that metaphore that you described… doesn’t work for me, but photo as itself in reaction with dance and movement, also as a study, works perfect.
Also, in a reaction with Striptiz concept, no.1 is much better (it is how I see it).

incredible color in second, indeed, but the first one is better with the pose and also legs above the puddle.

  10. OK, hope you’ve chosen the first. Perfection is in the details, and that car reflection… well, it stands out from the rest of the otherwise perfect picture. Colours on the 2nd one are definitely better. 😀

  11. thanks guys!
Of course first one was my favorite from the start, but I got concerned when I received few picks on the second one.

THe car reflection don’t bother me in the same sense. I did a version with a car included, just to show the chaotic situation. Of course it worked better cleaner composition.

Crazy colors on the second one are from the evening sky, when there was enough light. I did some mistakes on this shoot. Like the sky would be better if I would shoot the same time as the second one that’s 7pm, just before the sun set. And secondly I used softbox to direct the flashlight, but I should use the ring like that. I have a similar one, just more focused. With that I would get stronger reflection.

    Cheers,

  12. When you are not working you should still post work whether it is old or not. This blog and faithful fan base of a handful of people need to be constantly entertained! Put any kind of pictures, someone elses work…porn…whatever you want. Throw some comment on how its about the distance of time, or decisive moment, existential portraiture, self-portraits etc… Sit back enjoy a cocktail and see the rest of us dedicating precious time to comment. Who’s with me here?
