Portrait of Bogoslav Kalaš

Bogoslav Kalas by 20090420_8180
In the series of portraits for Striptiz rubric of Mladina weekly few weeks ago I’ve made a portrait of Bogoslav Kalaš in Gallery Gregor Podnar. Bogoslav Kalaš invented a painting machine already in year 1971 and that machine is airbrushing layers of paint to a canvas. The procedure is totally controlled by the author.

For this portrait my starting point was how to reinterpret his painting machine. I didn’t want to be literate and make a picture with the machine, but this machine is using a photography as an input of information, so I decided to do something around that. I borrowed 4×5″ camera from Borut Krajnc. I try it out with different focal length from 14 to 200 mm and normal focal length of 50 mm worked best.
