Borut Peterlin is in real life actually a librarian in a small town of Dolenjske Toplice in Slovenia, residents of the municipality 3276. As a very calm and shy person with no sex life, he devotedly takes care of the library’s collection of books on contemporary art. In fact he knows by heart the content of both books. But only when he touches a camera a strange thing happens. With a deafening bang and lots of smoke a hero within is unleashed. His tie snaps under the pressure of a vein on his neck and dark blue suit gets torn when his body takes the form of a Hulk. He becomes a photographer! But not just a photographer, a Wet-Plate Photographer! People in his images are looking smart, younger, healthier and most importantly slimmer. He achieves this effortlessly without the help of photoshop. Life behind Iron Curtain deprived him to own a computer, but that only forced him to somehow develop the superpowers of a wet-plate photographer.

Peterlin graduated at Prague’s FAMU Academy (1994-98), continued postgraduate studies at The London College of Printing (2002-03). In 2000 he received a scholarship at Fabrica, Benetton’s Research Center for Communication and began working with Oliviero Toscani. In 2001 Peterlin started Fotopub Festival of Documentary Photography and served as art-director for seven years.Currently however, Peterlin is solely focused on the ‘Antiquarian Avant-Guard’ of 19th Century photography techniques, with the emphasis on wet plate collodion negative and salt print process.

He has exhibited in venues such as the Konica-Minolta Gallery, Tokio, Japan / K2 Gallery – Izmir,Turkey / Martin-Gropius-Bau, Berlin, Germany/ Host Gallery, London, UK / Kaunas Photo Festival, Lithuania / Doland Museum, Shanghai, China / Photo Fringe Festival, Krakow, Poland and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
