An Albumen Print from an Ultra Large Format Collodion negative / vlog #92
.
In this vlog I’ve made an albumen prints from collodion negatives, I’ve made in the past vlogs. I’ve experienced contamination of my prints and I’m suspecting that the albumen didn’t prevent the contact of silvernitrate with the base paper. The matter of more future tests. I’ve also tried to make a carbon print, but DAS sensitiser has a horrible tonal threshold in highlights, so I wasn’t satisfyed with the carbon print. In the future I’ll make a multilayered carbon print, to get a pleasing result throughout the tonality of the print.

Bushcraft Photography / Vlog #60
.
.

In this part of Topshit Photography Vlog, I went to the woodland of Kočevski rog for two days and I did some collodion glass negatives and albumen prints. My main goal was to explore the possibility of staying away from the civilisation and still do my job as a professional photographer. In July 17th – 21st, 2019, I will organise an expedition with rafts down the river Krka and then in the woodland of Kočevski rog. The idea is that we make photography as we go. We don’t need a darkroom to make prints, we can do them in a tent in the middle of nowhere.
Anyway this experience was wonderful and in the future I will do that more often for longer periods of time.
If you wish to learn this noble topshit craft, I have a workshop every month. Visit: http://www.topshitphotography.com/

Exhibition in Vienna / Topshit Photography Vlog #36
Life takes time, I tell you! This vlog is quite eclectic from posting books, fixing my car, making some albumen prints, having exhibition opening in Vienna and most importantly, having fun with kids!
In my following week I’m getting new atelier. It’s going to be topshit indeed! It’s going to be at a railway station! 50 meters from beautiful river bank and I’m planning to have one or two wagons in front of it. The wagons will be a gallery space. On top of that our house is about to be sold, so I will buy a cottage in woodland.
That and lots more in the next episode of Topshit Photography Vlog!

I broke my glass negative!!!
Skuza me, but this video is pretty long, like 12 minutes, but I’ve been very productive the past month. I know, I should make three vlogs, but I just haven’t found time. Anyway, here is the new vlog and some images that I’ve listed on eBay. Tomorrow very early morning I’m driving to Italian Gorizia, where I teach at University, hand made photography, of course, so this post will be super short. Short post and long video. Don’t forget to press like, subscribe and of course bid!

Daughter facing future
Oh, I am so happy for this photograph I’ve created! And it’s a portrait of Brina, of my youngest daughter that does not want to be photographed very often! And she has a birthday today, she is 10 years old! Exactly on today’s date, ten years ago she took her first breath and joined us on our path of life.
In the video I’ve explained almost everything. I wanted to discuss the composition, but on the end I did not. When photographing I was in dilemma if I want her facing left or right. It would be more natural to be facing right, in the direction that we read a photograph. When I say we, I mean westerners, we read written word from left to right, that is why it would be more natural that she would face right. But on the end I’ve decided that she should face left. Because of her posture, standing brave, facing something that is out of the frame. But we see the thorns surrounding her. But she glows, she is surrounded by white back-light.
For us who know Brina well, we know how suitable is this portrait of her. She is really a fighter. Boys do not want to mess around with her because she knows how to punch. Of course I have thought her how to defend herself. I told both of my daughters that they will not go out on a date before they will not demonstrate how to use elbows and knees in self defence. Yep, that is our Brina! I’ve listed the print on eBay (link).
I have an art student from Barcelona here, her name is Ana and she is assisting me. First week we had basic darkroom techniques and the second week she is already printing contact copies from collodion negative on silver-chloride paper and split toning them. I’ve listed that print on eBay too.
Ghost Window in wet plate collodion
Dear followers,
This vlog should be published earlier, but I am missing three of my cameras. All small ones, like analogue compact Rollei camera, GoPro 3+ and Nikon J5 cameras. I have no idea what happened to them. In 30 years I have not lost a camera. I almost did, but never really. This small cameras were in my bag and I was carry them always with me. It might be that I forgot my backpack somewhere, but is more likely that someone took it out of my car. Today’s thieves do not need to brake a window, to get in your car. When I went to Prague I was resting on a rest stop and a thief silently broke in my car, without leaving any damage or signs. He did this while I was resting in the car! But then I woke up and he fled. Without steeling anything. So it might be that it was stolen or not. I do not know. Too many things happening in my life right now and this is the price to pay. Although this event is annoying it does not put me off. In fact that is why I bought Nikon J5, because I didn’t want to use the almighty and all expensive Nikon D4! Imagine that would happen with my Nikon D4 and my expensive lenses!
Anyway… Here is my latest vlog where I continue working on my book A Father’s Tale. A photo-book is not an album of images. It is a sequence of images carefully narrated through each page. Just like when music notes are containing parts that are actually bringing the orchestra to quit down or even to a complete stop, also photo-book must have parts in the book where an eye will relax, digest, reflect.
My idea is that the photo-book of my daughters should contain images that on information level do not tell you anything about them, but the images are containing certain mood that is bringing the viewer’s attention away from the information level and building the story on emotional level.
So that is why I’ve decided to photograph this window. I could ask one of my daughters to stand there or even I could stand by the window, but I’ve decided to keep it calm and simple. It is just one image in the book, but important one.
I hope you will like the image and the video. Please subscribe and share. My plan is to build up large enough social network and sell my books directly to my audience. And/Or with the large enough social network, main stream publishers will be interested in publishing the book. So thank you for subscribing to my YouTube channel, to my blog, to FB page and to my Instagram.

Exhibition in Bratislava during Month of Photography
.
During Month of Photography in Bratislava I was invited by Gallery Photon, to exhibit in the gallery of Embassy of Republic Slovenia. I decided to try something different, to present my work in old windows. I’m presenting a very intimate story of fears and delights being a parent and the window frames are emphasising hand made craft of my photographs and the effect of looking through window inside. I was very satisfied with the effect although needless to say I was full of doubts if this will actually work or make sense. I hope you agree, it does work.
I really wanted to exhibit this project, because as a teenager I saw the exhibition of Sally Mann and her project Immediate Family and this was for me very important personal motivation. Not only her work inspired me to photograph my family, but also it was in Sally Mann’s work I first time saw a 19th Century hand made photography used in contemporary art. On top of that, I am in the middle of divorce and setting up this work was so painful. I was totally ambushed by emotions from the past, while working on the exhibition. You don’t see that in the video, of course, but photographs are full of it.
Thank you to Gallery Photon, Dejan Sluga, Miha Colner, Embassy of R. Slovenia in Bratislava, Month of Photography in Bratislava and of course my family, Lučka, Brina and Alenka Peterlin.
On THIS link you can see the gallery of the images.
Here is a video few years old, where I’m talking about A Father’s Tale project, early version of the project.
Father – Daughters – Bonding / Vlog 011
.
In this episode of my vlog, I’ve started a collaboration with my daughters in my photography project A Father’s Tale. I’ve been talking before about my project, but now, when I am in the middle of divorce, I’m bonding with my kids in this kind of creative way.
The prints we’ve created are listed on Ebay, as an auction, so I thank you for bidding, liking and sharing my videos. I thank my patreons who are supporting me monthly via platform PATREON.com.
